Al Son de Jerez

Al Son de Jerez is a renowned dancing company. Their style of flamenco is powerful and energetic, spontaneous and elegant.
This traditional Cuadro consists of very experienced musicians who collaborate with one of the most talented, young female dancers.
Members are : Juan Zarzuela (vocals), Carmen Herrera (dance), Antonio Higuero (guitar) and Luis de la Tota (percussion)

 Juan Zarzuela
Juan Zarzuela started off his artistic career at Angelita Gomez’ dancing school. But at the age of 11 he chose the path of Cante.
He soon performed as a Cantaor at all important festivals and in concert halls all over Spain. Abroad he toured through Belgium (in 1996 already), Japan (2000), the Netherlands (2001) as well as through Switzerland, Greece, Germany and France.
He was part of “Yerma” by Carmen Cortés, but also toured with other dancers such as Merche Esmeralda, Angelita Gomez and Manolo Marin.
In 2001, his first CD “Entre tu, yo y el Aire” came out. All of the songs on this CD were written and composed by himself.
Afterwards the CD “Pura Verdad” and the DVD “Flamenco and Jerez” followed.
Juan Zarzuela is also a highly appreciated instructor. Since 2001, he has been working at the Conservatorio de Danza in Cadiz and since last year also at the conservatory of his home town Jerez de la Frontera. Around Christmas 2008, he was also named principle of the “Zambomba Flamenco Oficial de Jerez”.

 Carmen Herrera
Former student and convinced follower of dancer Ana Maria Lopez.
She also completed her training with Farruquito and Juana Amaya.
Along with Ana Maria Lopez she toured through Japan and France.
Early on in her career she already had the chance to collaborate with grand guitar players Moraito and Gerardo Nuñez.
In 2008 she participated in the performance“Al Compas De Romance” by Pepe Marin.
Along with dancer Mercedes Ruiz she shared the stage in France, Italy, Toronto (Canada) and at the Festival de Jerez.
Nowadays she is also the 2nd teacher at Ana Maria Lopez’ dancing academy.
Carmen Herrera has a very personal dancing style and an impressive sense of rhythm (Compás). She is a stylish and fierce flamenco dancer who is at the time pure and dynamical, elegant and gracious.
