“He is anything but ordinary” (Ray Cokes)
“Federico Ordoñez’s work is very powerful” (Alain Platel)
Federico Ordoñez is a prominent flamenco dancer, choreographer and teacher.
“He simply splashes of the screen” (Karen Damen), "Federico makes you want to leave for Spain immediately!" (Rob Vanoudenhoven), “Poetry in motion” . The judges had nothing but praise when he took his chances and took part in Belgium's Got Talent last spring.
VTM finally led him to the general public, but in the world of arts, he's been a household name for years. As a choreographer, he works at the Opera House La Monnaie in Brussels. As a teacher he is a welcome guest in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France (e.g. Les Suds in Arles) and China (e.g. Camino's Studio Shanghai).
As a starting Flamenco Artist, he could count on singer Belle Perez. Whom he accompanied on tour as a dancer.
Shortly before that his collaboration with La Barraca was started and with it his career as a soloist with performances in countless theatres and opera houses in Europe.
He spent years in Seville, where he enjoyed training and masterclasses, primarily under Manuel Betanzos. During this period he also worked as a dance teacher with Angel Atienza and Isabel Bayon.
Early on in his career, he often shared the stage with singer India Martinez. In Poland, he repeatedly worked with guitarist Carlos Piñana.
Since 2007 he forms a remarkable duo with the Sevillian dancer Irene Alvarez, first in the production "DOS", later in "Flamenco Esencial". Both are dance performances acting on the subjects of: sensuality, seduction, love and conflict.
Over the last couple of years he has gathered an exhaustive list of references:
He was a guest in (among others) the Musikfestspiele Potsdam, Festival Mitte Europa in Germany and Concentus Moraviae in the Czech Republic.
In Brussels he was able to sell out two nights in succession in the hall Espace Senghor. Previously, he performed at Handelsbeurs Ghent, Festival van Vlaanderen, Flagey Brussels, Vredenburg & Rasa Utrecht, Roma Borgerhout and BGF Balatonfüred Hungary. In 2015 he will also be a guest at King's Place, London for the third year in a row, and most recently he performed at Sfinks Mixed Festival in Boechout. The newspaper De Standaard chose Federico Ordoñez's concert as one of the best two performances at Sfinks Mixed Festival 2015.
His dance style is very personal. Festive nor cheerful.
He wants to move his audience, engage and guide them in an emotional journey.
Flamenco with a message! (you can read more about this in the interview with Federico in Weekend Knack in early July 2015).
“Dance itself feels like making a journey through your dreams, whilst singing with your entire body. Dancing brings depth and it brings out the beauty of this world!” |
