David Pérez (Alcala de Guadaira, Sevilla 1982)
David Pérez Almagro took up his training at the academy of the Villaú sisters in Alcalá. Afterwards, he also followed courses with e.g. Manolo Marin, Manuel Betanzos & Rafael Campallo.
In 1997 already, he was chosen to represent Andalucia at the annual Hispanic Festival in St. Louis (USA).
During the same period, he performed in tv-shows such as “Tal Como Somos” on CANAL SUR and “Lo Que Necesitas es Amor” on ANTENA 3 TV.
At the beginning of his carreer, he performed in the Benelux, in “Fiesta Gitana” by Curro Velez. He also toured through Japan, the USA and Australia as a dancer in “Carmen” by Salvador Távora and he travelled the entire world with the company of Maria Serrano.
In 2004, he won the prestigious “El Desplante” prize at the Festival de las Minas in La Unión.
During the two following years he was the official ambassador of the Arte Flamenco. As a result, he performed in many Spanish embassies all around the world, e.g. in France, the Netherlands and Kuwait.
In 2006, he won the “Jovenes Flamencos de Andalucia” prize. This resulted in collaborations with singer Calixto Sanchez, guitar player Eduardo Trassierra and he was part of the epic show “Andalucia, El Flamenco y La Humanidad” by dancer/choreographer Mario Maya.
One year later, he performed at the Flamenco Festival Chicago (USA) , a prestigious festival which also billed the master himself, Paco de Lucia.
Later on, shows in Athens, the Larachi Flamenco Festival in Paris, Japan and the Turkish national flamenco festival in Ankara followed.
Only recently, he collaborated with dancer Manuela Carrasco in “Suspiro Flamenco” and with Milagros Menjibar in “Por Derecho Propio”.
David Pérez is a technically refined and stylish flamenco dancer. Solid, competent and down to earth… or to a wooden stage in his case.
