In contemporary Andalucia, it is the province of Malaga which strives the most for the promotion of the Arte flamenco. An asset in this attempt is without doubt the fact that these days, a new and immensely talented generation of artists is stepping forward in the region. In flamenco dancing, there is the phenomenon Rocio Molina and in the vocal arts they have the extra-ordinarily talented ROCIO BAZAN (Estepona, 1977).
In spite of her Young age, Rocio Bazan is without any doubt one of the most important representers of the Cante flamenco in general and of the flamenco art from Malaga in specific.
Rocio Bazans most remarkable plus is her impressive sense of rhythm (Compás) and the ability to personify every role and to live each and every Cante she sings, to the fullest.
Rocio Bazan has been a local celebrity in the andalucian flamenco ever since she was 15. Some of the best-known competitions she has won are: “Jovenes Valores del Festival del Cante de las Minas” in 1999 and “El Girardillo” at the 2002 Sevilla Flamencobiennial.
She took up courses with flamenco celebrities such as Fosforito, Naranjito de Triana, Jose de la Tomasa, Calixto Sanchez and Juan Peña ”El Lebrijano”. She collaborated with the latter in his programme “Sueños en el Aire”.
Meanwhile she has developed a rich and busy careers, performing at all the big festivals in Spain (Sevilla, Jerez, Malaga, La Unión, Granada) as well as abroad (Chicago, Albuquerque, Moskow, Istanbul, Cairo,…).
Rocio Bazan is now coming to Northern Europe for a first fullworthy tour, an occasion which nog flamenco lover should miss out on!
