Jeunes artistes de flamenco reçoivent promoteur enthousiaste

La Barraca, c’est le nom de la compagnie de théâtre que le jeune poète espagnol Federico Garcia Lorca a guidé dans toute l’Espagne. Les acteurs étaient tous étudiants. Ce même titre-ci est maintenant adopté par une totalement nouvelle a.s.b.l. flamande, dirigé par un promoteur jeune, qui s’est assigné le but d’amener de jeunes artistes de flamenco de l’Espagne et de les donner une chance internationale.

Guido Declercq : « Il y a trop d’idées faux de ce qu’en fait est le flamenco, particulièrement le flamenco jeune. Le mot couvre fusion, salsa, rumbas françaises, beaucoup de spectacle et toutes sortes d’expériences avec de bizarres instruments. Ces expériences alors passent pour ‘moderne’ et tous les jeunes artistes de flamenco devraient changer la tradition pour ces nouvelles formes. Des jeunes comme ça existent en effet, mais il y a aussi beaucoup de jeunes chanteurs en Andalouse qui vivent l’authentique cante (ou chanson flamenco) existentiellement et qui le donnent dans leur façon de la forme. Cette expression très personnelle, c’est à la fois le flamenco et le moderne par excellence et elle continue à appeler aux jeunes, particulièrement quand ils voient des artistes de leur âge au travail.

La chanson reste l’essentiel et les scènes ne doivent pas être combles pour appeler. La chanson et la guitare, il n’y a pas besoin de plus, un évènement intime comme avec le fado portugais. »

De jeunes artistes alors, mais avec du talent. Declercq lui-même fait la prospection en Espagne et il juge sur place, se moquant de l’esbroufe publicitaire. Comme Jaap Hendriks le fait chaque année en Amérique pour son festival annuel de blues à Utrecht. Des amis dans le milieu artistique lui laissent faire la connaissance des experts, des initiés donnent leurs tuyaux. C’est comme ça que La Barraca a rassemblée un premier groupe de talents de flamenco pour une tournée en Flandres et un peu plus tard aussi à Paris et en Hollande.

India Martinez n’a que 18 ans et elle chante d’une façon carnassière, du ventre. Elle représente les tziganes d’Almeria. Javier Rivera (28) ceux de Sevilla. Melchora Ortega (32) a été couronnée la meilleure jeune chanteuse de flamenco il y a 5 ans à la biennale de flamenco à Sevilla. Laura Vital (23), venant de Sanlucar de Barramede, paradoxalement excelle dans le cante majestueux de l’Andalouse orientale, mais aussi dans les alegrías de sa terre natale. Ezequiel Benitez (24), de Jerez, devenait le vainqueur du concours renommé El Yunque à Barcelona. David Lagos (31), on a déjà pu voir chanter derrière les danseurs. Cette fois-ci, il vient comme chanteur pur, à l’avant. Et ce soir, on peut voir performer Antonio Reyes (27) à Sint-Niklaas. Une voix typiquement flamenco de Chiclana, chez Cádiz, plein de duende.

Young flamenco artists get enthusiastic promoter

La Barraca is the name of the theatre company which was guided through the whole of Spain by the young Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. The actors of this company were all students. This particular name, La Barraca, is now in use by a brand-new Flemish organisation, managed by a young promoter who faces the objective of bringing over young Spanish flamenco artists and so giving them an international career.

Guido Declercq: “There are too many false concepts as to what exactly is flamenco and young flamenco in particular. The word covers fusion, salsa, French rumbas, loads of spectacle and all kinds of experiments with peculiar instruments. These experiments then count as ‘modern’ and all young flamenco artists are assumed to exchange tradition for these new forms. Such youngsters do without a doubt exist, but there are also many young singers in Andalusia who really live the authentic cante (or flamenco song) in an existential way and so shape it in their own, personal manner. This extreme personal expression is pre-eminently flamenco and modern and it continues to appeal to the young, particularly when they see their contemporaries at work. The singing remains essential and the stage need not necessarily be as full as possible to appeal. Singing and guitar: that is all it needs; an intimate event comparable to Portuguese fado.”

Young artists, but talented. Declercq himself goes to Spain for prospection and he judges on the spot, without considering the whole publicity fuss. Exactly as Jaap Hendriks does it in America for the annual blues festival in Utrecht. Friends in the artistic scene introduce him to the experts, insiders give tip-offs. This is how La Barraca gathered its first series of flamenco talents for a tour in Flanders and later also in Paris and Holland.

Ezequiel Benítez (24), from Jerez, was the winner of the important Concours El Yunque in Barcelona. David Lagos (31) could already be seen at work here, behind the dancers. Junge Flamencokünstler bekommen begeisterten Promotor

La Barraca ist der Name einer Theatergesellschaft die vom jungen spanischen Dichter Federico García Lorca in ganz Spanien herumgeführt wurde. Die Schauspieler waren alle Studente. Derselbe Name, La Barraca, wird jetzt von einem ganz neuen flämischen vzw geführt; eine Organisation unter der Leitung von einem jungen Promotor dessen Ziel es ist, junge Flamencokünstler aus Spanien hierher zu bringen und ihnen eine internationale Chance zu verschaffen.

Guido Declercq: „Es gibt eine Menge falsche Vorstellungen über was Flamenco nun wirklich ist, spezifisch der junge Flamenco. Das Wort deckt Fusion, Salsa, französische Rumbas, viel Spektakel und manche Experimente mit komischen Instrumenten. Diese Experimente gelten dann als ‚modern’ und alle junge Flamencokünstler werden erwartet, die Tradition für diese neue Forme umzutauschen. Es gibt tatsächlich solche Jugendliche, aber eine große Menge von junge Sänger in Andalusien belebt der authentische cante (oder Flamencogesäng) auf ganz existentielle Weise und diese Künstler gestalten den cante nach ihrer persönlichen Art. Diese höchst persönliche Expression ist typisch Flamenco und modern und sie bleibt Jugendliche ansprechen, vor allem wenn sie Gleichaltrige an die Arbeit sehen.

Das Gesäng bleibt immer noch von wesentlicher Bedeutung und die Podien mussen nicht unbedingt möglichst voll stehen um anzusprechen. Gesang und Gitarre, mehr braucht man nicht, eine intime Veranstaltung so wie im portugesischen Fado.“

Junge Künstler also, aber talentiert. Declercq geht persönlich auf Prospektion nach Spanien und beurteilt an Ort und Stelle, ohne sich von dem publizitären Tamtam etwas anzuziehen. Genauso wie es Jaap Hendriks in Amerika tut für sein jährliches Bluesfestival in Utrecht. Freunde in dem Künstlerkreis introduzieren ihn bei den Kennern, Insider geben ihn Tipps. So hat La Barraca eine erste Reihe von Flamencotalenten versammelt für eine Gastspielreise in Flanders und später auch in Paris und Holland.
